Dear 10X Business Builder,
Yesterday I read on the Face-less book about a friend getting stiffed by another ‘friend’ for some work he did.
He’s an attorney, and a ‘friend’ asked him to do some legal work. And so he did it and then when the time came to use it, or God forbid, actually pay for the advice, the guy disappeared.
This is something I learned a long time ago from one of my Mentors, Chet Holmes.
He taught me that: people who don’t pay, don’t pay attention.
It’s true. And it’s why I won’t lift a finger or even get on a 10 minute phone call unless someone opens their wallet. It’s not about the money.
It’s more about human nature. That’s how we are made. We don’t value anything that comes easy or free as we do the stuff that we had to earn or pay for.
It’s like the rich, snotty, entitled kid versus the born on the wrong side of the tracks, that worked her ass off to make her way in the world — who’s going to appreciate what they have more?
We pay for things that we value BOTTOM LINE. If we don’t value them, we have a hard time paying for them.
So if someone isn’t willing to pay for your time or advice, they simply don’t value it enough.
Not only that, how do you think it makes your best customers feel? You know the ones that actually pay you, value you and implement your advice.
Why should they pay you if you’re willing to give it away for free?
To this day, to the best of my knowledge, nobody has attended Influencing from the front, without paying.
Even my closest friends have paid.
They gladly paid (because obviously they are cool if they are my friends) because they believe what we teach will improve their lives.
